Calculation of Ashtakavarga Scores

Calculating Ashtakavarga scores involves determining the number of bindus (points) received by each planet in each sign of the zodiac. The bindus are derived from the positions of other planets relative to the sign being analyzed. Here's a step-by-step guide to calculating Ashtakavarga scores:

1.      Prepare the Ashtakavarga Chart: Create a table or chart with the twelve signs of the zodiac (Aries to Pisces) listed horizontally and the seven planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) listed vertically.

2.      Assign Bindu Values: Assign bindu values to each planet based on its position in each sign. The bindu values are determined as follows:

If the planet is in a sign where it is exalted, it receives 8 bindus.

If the planet is in a sign where it is in its own sign (swakshetra), it receives 7 bindus.

If the planet is in a sign where it is in its friendly sign (mitra rashi), it receives 6 bindus.

If the planet is in a sign where it is in its neutral sign (sama rashi), it receives 5 bindus.

If the planet is in a sign where it is in its enemy sign (shatru rashi), it receives 4 bindus.

If the planet is in a sign where it is debilitated, it receives 3 bindus.

If the sign is vacant (no planets present), it receives 0 bindus.

3.      Calculate Total Bindus: Total the bindu values for each planet across all signs. This will give you the Ashtakavarga score for each planet.

4.      Interpretation: Higher Ashtakavarga scores indicate strength and positive influences of a planet in a particular house, while lower scores suggest weakness or challenges. Astrologers use these scores to make predictions about various aspects of life represented by the houses in the birth chart.

It's important to note that Ashtakavarga scores are just one of many factors considered in Vedic astrology for analyzing the strength and influence of planets in a birth chart. They provide valuable insights into the relative strengths and weaknesses of planets in different areas of life, helping astrologers offer more accurate predictions and guidance for individuals.
