Saptamsha

In Vedic astrology, "Saptamsha" (also spelled as "Saptamsh" or "D-7") is a divisional chart or "Varga" chart used to analyze matters related to progeny, children, and family lineage. The Saptamsha chart divides each sign of the zodiac into seven equal parts, resulting in a total of 12 divisions for the entire zodiac.

This divisional chart is particularly significant for understanding one's reproductive capabilities, fertility issues, childbirth, as well as the nature and characteristics of one's children. It provides additional insights into the potential for progeny and the dynamics of family relationships.

Astrologers analyze the placements of planets in the Saptamsha chart to assess factors such as the timing of childbirth, the number of children a person may have, the gender of children, and the overall happiness and harmony within the family.

Additionally, the Saptamsha chart is also used to examine factors such as creativity, romance, and love affairs, as these aspects are closely linked to the concept of progeny and lineage in Vedic astrology.

As with other divisional charts, the Saptamsha chart is used in conjunction with the birth chart (Rasi chart) and other divisional charts to provide a more comprehensive analysis of various aspects of an individual's life. By examining multiple charts, astrologers can offer detailed insights into different spheres of life, including matters related to children and family.
